Introduction

Jirafeau is a file-sharing web application that is easy to install and configure. In this tutorial, we will be installing Jirafeau on Alpine Linux.

Prerequisites

Before proceeding with this tutorial, you will need:

Step 1: Install Dependencies

To run Jirafeau, we will need to install some dependencies. To do this, open a terminal window and run the following command:

apk add php7 php7-fpm php7-opcache php7-json php7-mbstring php7-session php7-pdo php7-pdo_mysql php7-openssl nginx

This will install all the necessary dependencies for Jirafeau to run.

Step 2: Download Jirafeau

Next, we will download Jirafeau. To do this, run the following command:

git clone https://gitlab.com/mojo42/Jirafeau.git

This will download the Jirafeau code into a directory named "Jirafeau".

Step 3: Configure Nginx

We will now configure Nginx to serve Jirafeau. First, we need to create a server block for Jirafeau. Run the following command to create a new file in the "/etc/nginx/conf.d/" directory:

sudo nano /etc/nginx/conf.d/jirafeau.conf

Then, add the following content to the file:

server {
    listen 80;
    server_name your-domain.com;

    root /path/to/jirafeau/;
    index index.php;

    error_log /var/log/nginx/jirafeau-error.log;
    access_log /var/log/nginx/jirafeau-access.log;

    location / {
        try_files $uri $uri/ /index.php?$args;
    }

    location ~ \.php$ {
        fastcgi_pass unix:/var/run/php7-fpm.sock;
        fastcgi_index index.php;
        fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME $document_root$fastcgi_script_name;
        include fastcgi_params;
    }
}

Make sure to replace "your-domain.com" with your domain name and "/path/to/jirafeau/" with the path to the Jirafeau directory on your server.

Save and exit the file.

Step 4: Configure Jirafeau

Next, we need to configure Jirafeau by copy its configuration file. Run the following command to copy the configuration file:

cp /path/to/jirafeau/include/config.sample.inc.php /path/to/jirafeau/include/config.inc.php

Then, open the "config.inc.php" file in a text editor:

sudo nano /path/to/jirafeau/include/config.inc.php

Set the following variables in the file:

Save and exit the file.

Step 5: Start Services

We will now start the services necessary for Jirafeau to run. Run the following commands:

sudo rc-update add php-fpm7 default
sudo rc-update add nginx default
sudo rc-service nginx start
sudo rc-service php-fpm7 start

This will start Nginx and PHP-FPM 7.

Step 6: Access Jirafeau

Jirafeau should now be accessible at "http://your-domain.com". Test it out by visiting the URL in your web browser.

Conclusion

Congratulations! You have successfully installed Jirafeau on Alpine Linux. You can now use Jirafeau to safely and securely share files with others.

If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!

Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
