Installing MiniNote on Alpine Linux

MiniNote is a minimalist note-taking application that runs in the terminal. This tutorial will guide you through installing MiniNote on Alpine Linux.

Prerequisites

Before proceeding with this tutorial, you should have the following:

Step 1: Install dependencies

Before installing MiniNote, you need to install some dependencies. Open a terminal and run the following command:

sudo apk add git ncurses-dev make gcc g++

This command installs Git (to clone the MiniNote repository), ncurses-dev (to enable terminal UI), make (to compile code), and gcc/g++ (to compile C++ code).

Step 2: Clone MiniNote repository

Once the dependencies are installed, clone the MiniNote repository from Github. Run the following command in your terminal:

git clone https://github.com/muety/mininote.git

This command will clone the repository into a new directory named 'mininote'.

Step 3: Install MiniNote

Navigate to the 'mininote' directory and run the following command:

make
sudo make install

This command compiles the MiniNote code and installs it to your system. MiniNote should now be ready to use.

Step 4: Start MiniNote

To start MiniNote, open a terminal and run the following command:

mininote

This will open MiniNote in your terminal.

Congratulations! You have successfully installed MiniNote on your Alpine Linux system.

If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!

Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
