How to install Robust IRC on Alpine Linux Latest

In this tutorial, we will learn how to install Robust IRC on Alpine Linux Latest. Robust IRC is a network of IRC servers that aims to provide a reliable and secure communication platform for IRC users.

Prerequisites

Before getting started, you will need to make sure that you have the following packages installed on your system:

Step 1: Download Robust IRC

The first step is to download the latest version of Robust IRC from their official website. You can do this by running the following command in your terminal:

$ curl -L https://downloads.robustirc.net/robustirc-latest.tar.gz -o robustirc-latest.tar.gz

This will download the compressed file containing the latest version of Robust IRC to your current working directory.

Step 2: Extract the files

After downloading the compressed file, extract it to a directory of your choice using the following command:

$ tar -xzf robustirc-latest.tar.gz -C /opt

This will extract the files to the /opt/robustirc directory.

Step 3: Configure Robust IRC

Before starting the Robust IRC server, you need to configure it. Create a new configuration file by running the following command:

$ cp /opt/robustirc/etc/robustirc.yml.sample /opt/robustirc/etc/robustirc.yml

Open the file /opt/robustirc/etc/robustirc.yml using a text editor of your choice and configure it to your liking. You can find more information about the configuration options in the file itself.

Step 4: Start the server

After configuring Robust IRC, you can now start the server by running the following command:

$ /opt/robustirc/bin/server -config /opt/robustirc/etc/robustirc.yml

This will start the Robust IRC server using the configuration file you specified.

Step 5: Connect to the server

Once the server is running, you can connect to it using an IRC client of your choice. The default port for Robust IRC is 6697 (SSL) or 6667 (non-SSL).

Congratulations! You have successfully installed and configured Robust IRC on Alpine Linux Latest.
