Wireshark is a network protocol analyzer that allows you to capture and analyze network traffic in real-time. In this tutorial, we will show you how to install Wireshark on Alpine Linux.
Before we start with the installation process, make sure that you have the following prerequisites:
The first step is to update the package repository on Alpine Linux:
sudo apk update
Now that the package repository is updated, we can install Wireshark:
sudo apk add wireshark
By default, the Wireshark package creates a group called "wireshark" and adds the "root" user to it. You need to add your user account to this group, so that you can run Wireshark without root privileges:
sudo addgroup yourusername wireshark
Replace "yourusername" with your user account on Alpine Linux.
Now, restart the network manager service to apply the changes:
sudo service NetworkManager restart
You can now run Wireshark by typing the following command in the terminal:
sudo wireshark
This will launch the Wireshark graphical interface.
You have successfully installed Wireshark on Alpine Linux and added your user account to the Wireshark group. You are now ready to use Wireshark to capture and analyze network traffic.
If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!
Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
