This tutorial will guide you through the steps for installing the web-based integrated development environment (IDE), Coder, on Clear Linux Latest. Coder is a powerful tool that allows developers to collaborate on projects and write code from anywhere in the world.
Before you start, you need to ensure that your system meets the following requirements:
Before installing Coder, we need to install Docker since Coder runs as a Docker container.
Run the following command in the terminal:
sudo swupd bundle-add container-tools
This command will install Docker on your Clear Linux machine.
Now that Docker is installed, we can proceed with installing Coder.
Open the terminal and run the following command:
docker run -it -d -p 8080:8080 -v "${HOME}/coder:/home/coder/project" codercom/code-server
This command will download and launch a Coder container in detached mode (-d), expose port 8080 (-p 8080:8080), and mount your local file system to /home/coder/project (-v "${HOME}/coder:/home/coder/project").
Once the container is up and running, you can access Coder at:
http://localhost:8080
You will be prompted to set up a password for Coder. Choose a strong password and click "Set Password" to continue.
After setting up the password, you will be redirected to the Coder dashboard. From here, you can create a new project, import an existing project, or connect to a Git repository.
That's it! You have successfully installed and launched Coder on Clear Linux. You can now start coding and collaborating with your team using Coder's powerful web-based IDE.
If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!
Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
