EdPaste is a web-based tool for collaborative text editing, built with Node.js and Socket.io. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the installation process of EdPaste on Clear Linux Latest.
Before proceeding with the installation, you should have the following prerequisites:
First, we will clone the EdPaste repository from Github. To do this, open your terminal and run the following command:
git clone https://github.com/ptnr/EdPaste.git
This command will clone the repository to your local machine.
After cloning the repository, we need to install the required dependencies. Navigate to the EdPaste directory that was created after cloning and run the following command:
npm install
This command will install all the dependencies required for running EdPaste.
Next, we need to configure EdPaste by creating a configuration file. Within the EdPaste directory, create a new file called .env
and paste the following into it:
PORT=8080
SESSION_SECRET=your-session-secret-here
This file sets the port that EdPaste will run on and the session secret that EdPaste will use.
Finally, we can run EdPaste. To start the server, run the following command:
node app.js
This will start the server and you can then access EdPaste by opening a web browser and navigating to http://localhost:8080
.
Congratulations, you have successfully installed EdPaste on Clear Linux Latest!
If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!
Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
