Samba is an open-source software suite that provides file and print services between different operating systems. Here's a tutorial on how to install Samba on Clear Linux Latest:
Samba requires some dependencies to be installed before it can be installed. Use the following command to install them.
sudo swupd bundle-add devpkg-libcap-ng devpkg-popt devpkg-gnutls devpkg-libtirpc
Go to the Samba website, https://www.samba.org/, and download the latest stable release.
Once the download is finished, extract the tarball using the following command:
tar -xvf <samba-tarball>.tar.gz
Change into the newly created directory, and run the following command to configure the build options:
./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var
This will configure Samba with the default options.
Run the following command to build Samba:
make
This will build all the components of Samba.
Run the following command to install Samba:
sudo make install
This will install all the components of Samba.
Start the Samba daemon using the following command:
sudo /usr/sbin/smbd -D
This will start the Samba daemon in daemon mode and listen for file-sharing requests.
Samba is now installed and configured on the Clear Linux Latest system. You can now use it to share files between different operating systems.
If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!
Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
