Archipel is an open source software which allows you to manage and control your Virtualized infrastructure across multiple different hypervisors. This tutorial will guide you through the process of installing Archipel on Debian Latest.
Before you proceed with the installation, ensure that:
You have a Debian Latest server setup.
You have sudo privileges on the server.
Ensure that your Debian system is up-to-date by running the following command:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
Archipel requires some dependencies to be installed. Install them by running the following command:
sudo apt-get install python-setuptools python-netifaces python-psycopg2 python-imaging python-lxml python-yaml python-cherrypy3 python-simplejson python-virtualenv virtualenvwrapper python-cheetah python-paramiko libvirt-dev libxml2-dev libxslt-dev libvirt-bin git
Clone the Archipel source code from Github repository into your server by running the following command:
git clone https://github.com/ArchipelProject/Archipel.git
Navigate to the Archipel directory using the following command:
cd Archipel
Create a virtual environment by running the following command:
sudo virtualenv .venv
Activate the virtual environment by running the following command:
source .venv/bin/activate
Install Archipel using the following command:
sudo python setup.py install
After installing Archipel, you need to configure it.
Navigate to the configuration directory by running the following command:
cd archipel/archipel/agent/conf
Copy the archipel.ini.sample
to archipel.ini
using the following command:
sudo cp archipel.ini.sample archipel.ini
Edit the configuration file using your favorite text editor:
sudo nano archipel.ini
Change the server_bind_address
field to the IP address of your server.
server_bind_address = 192.168.1.100
Save and close the file.
After configuring Archipel, you can now start it:
sudo archipel-agentd start
To verify if Archipel is running properly, you can use archipelctl
command. Run the following command to list available hypervisors:
sudo archipelctl list_hypervisors
You should see a list of hypervisors that Archipel is managing.
Congratulations! You have successfully installed Archipel on Debian Latest.
If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!
Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
