Plainpad is a minimalist yet powerful text editor developed by Alex Tselegidis. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the steps to install Plainpad on Debian Latest.
Before we proceed, make sure you have the following prerequisites installed on your system:
First, you need to download the Plainpad binary file from the official website. Use the following command to download the "plainpad-vX.Y.Z-linux-x64.tar.gz" file in the current directory:
$ wget https://alextselegidis.com/get/plainpad/latest/plainpad-latest.tar.gz
Once the download is completed, extract the Plainpad binary file using the following command:
$ tar -xzf plainpad-latest.tar.gz
The Plainpad binary needs to be moved to the /opt directory and a symbolic link needs to be created for easy access. Use the following commands to move Plainpad to /opt and create a symbolic link:
$ sudo mv plainpad /opt
$ sudo ln -s /opt/plainpad/plainpad /usr/local/bin/plainpad
Now that Plainpad is installed, you can simply type "plainpad" in your terminal to launch the application. Alternatively, you can click on the Plainpad icon from your application menu, if available.
$ plainpad
That's it! You have successfully installed Plainpad on Debian Latest. You can now use this lightweight yet powerful text editor to create and edit your text files.
If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!
Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
