Proxmox VE is a powerful open-source server virtualization solution that allows you to create and manage virtual machines and containers. In this tutorial, we will show you how to install Proxmox VE on Debian Latest.
Before you begin, make sure you have the following:
First, we need to update the Debian system to the latest version. Run the following command to update the system:
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y
Proxmox VE is not available in the official Debian repositories. Therefore, we need to enable the Proxmox VE repository by adding the following lines to the /etc/apt/sources.list
file:
deb http://download.proxmox.com/debian/pve buster pve-no-subscription
Save the changes and update the apt repository again by running the following command:
sudo apt update
Now we can install Proxmox VE by running the following command:
sudo apt install proxmox-ve postfix open-iscsi -y
This command will install Proxmox VE along with Postfix (mail server) and Open-iSCSI (interface for connecting to SAN).
After the installation is complete, reboot the system by running the following command:
sudo reboot
Once the system is rebooted, you can access the Proxmox VE web interface by entering the IP address of the server in your web browser followed by https://<server-ip-address>:8006
. You will need to accept the self-signed SSL certificate to access the web interface.
To log in, use the root
username and the root password that you set during the installation process.
That's it! You have successfully installed Proxmox VE on Debian Latest. You can now use Proxmox VE to create and manage virtual machines and containers on your server.
If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!
Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
