In this tutorial, we will be installing Sismics Reader on the latest Debian. Sismics Reader is a web-based RSS/Atom feed aggregator that allows you to organize, read, and share news and articles from various sources.
Before we begin, make sure that you have the following:
To ensure that our system is up-to-date, let's update our Debian system:
sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade
To run Sismics Reader, we need to install some dependencies such as Java and Apache Tomcat. Let's install them:
sudo apt install default-jdk tomcat9 tomcat9-admin
After installation, start the Tomcat service:
sudo systemctl start tomcat9
Download the Sismics Reader binary by running the following command:
wget https://www.sismics.com/pub/reader/release/latest/SismicsReader-latest.war
Next, we need to deploy the Sismics Reader binary to the Tomcat webapps directory:
sudo mv SismicsReader-latest.war /var/lib/tomcat9/webapps/SismicsReader.war
Now that Sismics Reader is successfully deployed, we can access the Web UI by opening a web browser and navigating to the following URL:
http://<your-server-ip>:8080/SismicsReader/
You will see the Sismics Reader login page, where you can create an account and start using it.
That's it! You have successfully installed Sismics Reader on Debian latest. Enjoy your new RSS/Atom feed aggregator!
If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!
Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
