Before installing Transmission, you need to make sure that your system is up to date. You can update the system using the following commands:
sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade
Transmission needs some dependencies to work properly. You can install these dependencies by using the following command:
sudo apt install build-essential automake autoconf libtool pkg-config libcurl4-openssl-dev intltool libxml2-dev libgtk-3-dev libnotify-dev libglib2.0-dev libevent-dev qtbase5-dev qttools5-dev-tools
You can download the latest version of Transmission from the official website or by using the following command:
wget https://github.com/transmission/transmission-releases/raw/master/transmission-3.00.tar.xz
After downloading the source code, extract it using the following command:
tar -xvf transmission-3.00.tar.xz
Navigate to the extracted directory:
cd transmission-3.00
Now compile and install Transmission by running the following command:
./configure
make
sudo make install
To start Transmission, simply execute the following command in your terminal:
transmission-gtk
