Before installing anything, you should update your system to ensure that your package list is up-to-date. You can do this by running the following command:
sudo apt-get update
YaCy requires OpenJDK to run correctly. Therefore, install OpenJDK by running the following command:
sudo apt-get install openjdk-8-jdk
Download the latest stable version of YaCy by visiting the official website at https://yacy.net/en/index.html
. Once downloaded, extract the files to a directory of your choosing. For this tutorial, we'll assume that you've extracted the files to the directory /opt/yacy
.
To run YaCy, navigate to the directory where you extracted the files and run startYACY.sh
. For example:
cd /opt/yacy/
./startYACY.sh
This will start the YaCy search engine on http://localhost:8090/
.
Upon starting YaCy, you'll be prompted to configure a number of settings including the network configuration, database settings, and administrator password. Follow the on-screen prompts to configure YaCy to your liking.
Once YaCy is running and configured, you can access it from any web browser by navigating to http://localhost:8090/
. From here, you can begin using YaCy to search the internet!
