OpenAFS is an open-source distributed file system that allows you to access and share files between different operating systems and networks. In this tutorial, we will show you how to install OpenAFS on Elementary OS.
Before installing OpenAFS, you need to refresh your system repositories.
Open the terminal by pressing Ctrl + Alt + T and run the following command:
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
Next, let's install OpenAFS:
sudo apt install openafs-client
This command will download and install the OpenAFS client software on your system.
After installing OpenAFS, you need to configure it. Run the following command to configure your OpenAFS client:
sudo /usr/sbin/afsd
You may also need to restart your system by running the following command:
sudo systemctl reboot
Once you have configured OpenAFS, you can mount the file system by running the following command, replacing example.com with the name of your OpenAFS file server:
sudo mount -t openafs example.com:/ /mnt
This command will mount your OpenAFS file system to the /mnt directory. You can replace /mnt with any other directory where you want to mount your OpenAFS file system.
Now that you have mounted your OpenAFS file system, you can access your files by navigating to the mounted directory.
For example:
cd /mnt
ls
This will list the files and directories in your OpenAFS file system.
