Slimta is an email server built in Python. In this tutorial, we will cover how to install Slimta on Elementary OS Latest.
Before we start, make sure to have the following:
sudo
accessTo install Slimta, we first need to install its dependencies. Run the following command to install the required packages:
sudo apt-get install libev-dev libyaml-dev libffi-dev python3-dev python3-pip
We can now install Slimta using pip3
. Run the following command to install Slimta:
sudo pip3 install slimta
By default, Slimta reads its configuration from the file /etc/slimta.cfg
. Here is an example configuration file:

interfaces = 0.0.0.0:25
[data]
directory = /var/spool/slimta
[logging]
level = info
directory = /var/log/slimta
This configuration allows incoming connections on port 25, stores email in /var/spool/slimta
, and logs messages with an info
level to /var/log/slimta
.
You can change this configuration file to suit your needs.
Finally, start the Slimta service with the following command:
sudo systemctl start slimta
You can check the status of the Slimta service with the following command:
sudo systemctl status slimta
