How to install mtr on Fedora CoreOS

MTR (My traceroute) is a diagnostic tool which combines the functions of ping and traceroute. In this tutorial, we will learn how to install MTR on Fedora CoreOS.

Prerequisites

• Access to a Fedora CoreOS instance.
• Basic knowledge of the Linux command line.

Steps

1. Open a terminal window on your Fedora CoreOS instance.

2. Update the package database by running the following command:

   sudo dnf update
   

   This will ensure that your system has the latest available packages.

3. Install the necessary dependencies by running the following command:

   sudo dnf install -y gcc make kernel-devel libevent libevent-devel ncurses ncurses-devel
   

   This will install all the necessary dependencies required to build and install MTR.

4. Download the source code for MTR from the official website:

   wget https://github.com/traviscross/mtr/archive/master.zip
   

5. Extract the downloaded archive by running the following command:

   unzip master.zip
   

6. Change to the extracted directory by running the command:

   cd mtr-master
   

7. Run the following commands in order to configure, compile, and install MTR:

   ./bootstrap.sh
   ./configure
   make
   sudo make install
   

   This will compile and install MTR on your system.

8. Verify that MTR has been installed correctly by running the following command:

   mtr --version
   

   This will display the version number of MTR installed on your system.

Congratulations! You have successfully installed MTR on Fedora CoreOS. You can now use MTR to diagnose network connectivity issues on your system.
