In this tutorial, we will walk you through the steps to install Blocky, a DNS proxy server that provides ad-blocking, on FreeBSD Latest operating system.
Before starting this tutorial, ensure you have the following:
First, update your FreeBSD system by running the following command:
pkg update && pkg upgrade -y
Blocky depends on several packages. Install them using the following command:
pkg install git python3 py37-pip libffi libssl libxml2 libxslt
Clone the Blocky repository from GitHub:
git clone https://github.com/0xERR0R/blocky.git
Install Blocky using pip:
cd blocky
pip3 install .
Create a configuration file for Blocky:
cp blocky.example.cfg blocky.cfg
Edit the configuration file blocky.cfg
as per your requirements. You can adjust the configuration according to your DNS provider, block lists, and other settings.
Start the Blocky service:
blocky start
By default, Blocky listens on port 53. Ensure that you have stopped any other DNS services on your server beforehand.
Congratulations! You have successfully installed Blocky on your FreeBSD Latest machine. You can now use it as a DNS proxy server to block ads and other unwanted domains.
If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!
Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
