How to Install Eggdrop on Kali Linux

Eggdrop is a popular IRC (Internet Relay Chat) bot initially created for Unix-like operating systems. If you're using Kali Linux and want to install Eggdrop, follow these steps:

Step 1: Install the Necessary Dependencies

Before you download and install Eggdrop, you need to ensure that your system has the following dependencies:

sudo apt-get install gcc make tcl tcl-dev

Step 2: Download Eggdrop

Go to the Eggdrop website, scroll down the page until you see the "Download Latest Release" section. Click on the link that says "tar.gz" to download the latest version of Eggdrop.

Alternatively, you can use the following command to download Eggdrop directly from the terminal:

wget http://ftp.eggheads.org/pub/eggdrop/source/1.8/eggdrop1.8.4.tar.gz

Note: Replace the version number in the command with the latest version available on the Eggdrop website.

Step 3: Extract the Eggdrop Files

Once the download is complete, use the following command to extract the Eggdrop files:

tar -xvzf eggdrop*.tar.gz

This command will extract the downloaded files to the current working directory.

Step 4: Build Eggdrop

Navigate to the extracted Eggdrop directory using the following command:

cd eggdrop*

Then, use the following command to build Eggdrop:

./configure

This command will configure the Eggdrop files for your system.

After that, run the following command to compile Eggdrop:

make

This command will compile the Eggdrop source code into an executable file.

Step 5: Install Eggdrop

Finally, to install Eggdrop, run the following command:

make install

This command will install Eggdrop to the default location (/usr/local/bin/eggdrop) on your Kali Linux system.

Step 6: Start Eggdrop

To start Eggdrop, use the following command:

./eggdrop <config-file>
