Jami is a free and open-source communication platform that allows for secure peer-to-peer audio, video, and messaging communication over the internet. In this tutorial, we will walk you through the steps to install Jami on Kali Linux, the popular Debian-based penetration testing distribution.
Before we begin, ensure that you have the following:
To install Jami on Kali Linux, we first need to add the Jami repository to the system's repository list using the following commands:
sudo sh -c 'echo "deb http://dl.jami.net/$(lsb_release -s -c) ring main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/jami.list'
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://pool.sks-keyservers.net --recv-key 94353B79
Once executed, the Jami repository will be added to your system's repository list, and the key will be downloaded and registered.
Before installing Jami, ensure that you have the latest updates on your system by running the following command:
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y
It will update all the currently installed packages to the latest version.
After we have added the Jami repository and updated our system, we can now proceed with the installation of Jami. Run the following command in the terminal:
sudo apt install jami
This command will download and install Jami along with its dependencies.
After the installation is complete, you can launch Jami by searching for it in the applications menu, or run the following command:
jami-gnome
This command will launch the Jami software.
Congratulations! You have successfully installed Jami on Kali Linux. You can now use this platform to communicate securely with your peers over audio, video, or messaging.
If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!
Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
