Oddmuse is a wiki software that allows users to create and edit web pages collaboratively. It is an open-source software that can be installed on various operating systems, including Kali Linux. In this tutorial, we will guide you on how to install Oddmuse on Kali Linux.
To follow along with this tutorial, you will need:
Before installing Oddmuse, we need to make sure that all the necessary dependencies are installed. Open the terminal on your Kali Linux system and type the following command:
sudo apt-get install curl perl libhtml-wikiconverter-dokuwiki-perl libhtml-wikiconverter-mediawiki-perl libhtml-wikiconverter-wikkawiki-perl libhtml-wikiconverter-phpwiki-perl
This command will install the required packages for Oddmuse.
Next, we need to download the Oddmuse software. Type the following command in the terminal:
curl -L https://oddmuse.org/download/oddmuse-latest.tar.gz | tar xzvf -
This command will download the latest version of Oddmuse and extract the files to your current directory.
After extracting the Oddmuse files, navigate to the newly created directory using the following command:
cd oddmuse-*
Inside this directory, you will find a configuration file named config-EXAMPLE.pl
. We need to make a copy of this file and name it config.pl
. Type the following command to make the copy:
cp config-EXAMPLE.pl config.pl
Now, open the config.pl
file in a text editor of your choice:
nano config.pl
Edit the configuration options according to your preferences. At a minimum, you should set the base_url
option to the URL of your wiki. For example:
$Config{'base_url'} = 'http://example.com/wiki';
Once you have made your changes, save the file and exit the text editor.
To run Oddmuse, type the following command in the terminal:
perl oddmuse.pl
This will start the Oddmuse server. You should see output similar to the following:
Oddmuse 0.847 running...
http://localhost:5000/
Open a web browser and navigate to the URL displayed in the output. You should see the Oddmuse welcome page.
Congratulations! You have successfully installed Oddmuse on Kali Linux. You can now use the wiki software to create and edit web pages collaboratively.
If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!
Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
