The Lounge is an easy-to-use, self-hosted web IRC client. It allows you to connect to IRC networks and chat with other users from your web browser. This tutorial will guide you through the installation process of The Lounge on Kali Linux Latest.
Before starting the installation process, make sure that you have the following:
Before installing The Lounge, we need to install some dependencies. Open the terminal and run the following command to update the package list:
sudo apt-get update
Next, run the following command to install the dependencies:
sudo apt-get install curl gnupg nodejs npm build-essential
The Lounge requires Node.js to be installed on your system. Kali Linux Latest comes with Node.js pre-installed, but it may not be the latest version. You can check the version of Node.js installed by running the following command:
node -v
If you have an older version of Node.js installed, you can upgrade it by running the following command:
sudo apt-get install -y nodejs
We can now proceed with the installation of The Lounge. Run the following command to add the NodeSource repository:
curl -sL https://deb.nodesource.com/setup_14.x | sudo -E bash -
After adding the NodeSource repository, run the following command to install The Lounge:
sudo npm install -g thelounge
Once The Lounge is installed, we need to configure it. Run the following command to start The Lounge:
thelounge start
This will create a default configuration file at ~/.lounge/config.js. You can edit this file to customize your settings. For example, you can change the default port and enable SSL. To edit the file, run the following command:
nano ~/.lounge/config.js
Make the necessary changes and save the file.
We are now ready to access The Lounge. Open your web browser and go to the following address:
http://localhost:9000
You should see the login page for The Lounge. Enter your username and password to log in.
Congratulations! You have successfully installed The Lounge on Kali Linux Latest. You can now use it to connect to IRC networks and chat with other users from your web browser. Happy chatting!
