oVirt is an open-source virtualization platform used to manage virtual machines and hosts. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of installing oVirt on Kali Linux latest version using the command line.
Before installing oVirt, it is important to update the Kali Linux packages using the following commands:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
oVirt requires EPEL (Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux) repository to be installed on your system, run the following command:
sudo apt-get install epel-release
Run the following commands to install oVirt engine:
sudo wget -P /etc/yum.repos.d/ http://plain.resources.ovirt.org/pub/yum-repo/ovirt-release44.rpm
sudo rpm --import /etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-ovirt-4.4
sudo yum install ovirt-engine
After successfully installing oVirt, run the following command to configure it:
sudo engine-setup
This command will prompt you to accept a series of default settings, including setting up a PostgreSQL database, configuring domain and administrative users, and creating a self-signed SSL certificate.
Start the oVirt engine by running the following command:
sudo systemctl start ovirt-engine
Verify the status of the oVirt engine by running the following command:
sudo systemctl status ovirt-engine
You should see the status message as "active (running)" indicating that the oVirt engine is up and running.
Finally, access the oVirt web UI by navigating your web browser to the following URL:
https://localhost/ovirt-engine
Use the domain name and administrative user credentials you created earlier in the configuration process to log in to the oVirt web interface.
In this tutorial, we have covered the installation steps to install oVirt on Kali Linux latest version. You can now deploy and manage virtual machines using the oVirt platform.
If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!
Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
