How to Install Volumio on Linux Mint

In this tutorial, we will guide you through the steps to install Volumio on your Linux Mint machine. Volumio is an open-source music player and media center that offers excellent audio quality and a user-friendly interface for music lovers.

Step 1: Download the Volumio Image for Raspberry Pi

Before we start with the installation, we need to download the Volumio image for Raspberry Pi. The latest Volumio version is always available for download at the official website: https://volumio.com/get-started/.

Choose your device and click on the appropriate link to download the Volumio image.

Step 2: Create a bootable USB/DVD drive

Once you have downloaded the Volumio image, you need to create a bootable USB/DVD drive. There are several software tools available for creating bootable media such as Etcher or Rufus.

Here we will use Etcher as it is easy to use and available for Linux, Windows, and macOS.

  1. Open the Etcher application.
  2. Choose the downloaded Volumio image by clicking on "Select Image".
  3. Select your USB/DVD drive by clicking on "Select Drive".
  4. Click on "Flash" button to start the process.

Etcher will validate the image and then start writing it to the USB/DVD drive. This process will take a few minutes.

Step 3: Boot from USB/DVD Drive

After creating a bootable USB/DVD drive, it's time to boot from it.

  1. Connect the USB/DVD drive to your machine.
  2. Reboot your machine and enter the BIOS setup by pressing the appropriate key (usually F12).
  3. In the BIOS setup, set the USB/DVD drive as the first boot device. Save the changes and exit the BIOS setup.
  4. Your machine should now boot from the USB/DVD drive, and you will see the Volumio boot menu on your screen.

Step 4: Install Volumio on Linux Mint

After booting from the Volumio image, you need to connect your machine to the internet. You can use either a wired or wireless connection.

  1. Open a web browser and type "volumio.local" in the address bar. Hit Enter. If you are unable to reach volumio.local, you can also try to find the IP address of your Raspberry Pi using a network scanning tool like nmap.
  2. Volumio web interface should now appear on your screen. Click on the "Settings" icon in the upper right corner.
  3. In the settings menu, select the "Network" tab to configure your network settings. Once you have done this, click on "Save".
  4. After you have saved your network settings, go back to the "System" tab and select "Check for updates".
  5. Follow the instructions to download and install updates. This process may take several minutes.
  6. After the updates have been installed, restart your Raspberry Pi by clicking on the "Power off" button and then selecting "Reboot".
  7. Once the Raspberry Pi has restarted, you are ready to use Volumio. You can access the Volumio web interface by typing "volumio.local" in your web browser's address bar.

Congratulations! You have successfully installed Volumio on your Linux Mint machine. You can now enjoy high-quality music on your computer.
