Archivematica is a free and open-source digital preservation software package for libraries, archives, and museums. It is designed to automate the process of creating and managing digital archives. In this tutorial, we will guide you through installing Archivematica on MX Linux.
Before installing Archivematica, make sure your system meets the following requirements:
Execute the following commands in your terminal to download the Archivematica public key, add the Archivematica repository to your system and update the package source list:
wget -qO - https://packages.archivematica.org/1.12.x/key.asc | sudo apt-key add -
sudo sh -c "echo 'deb https://packages.archivematica.org/1.12.x/focal_fossa/ focal main' >>
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/archivematica.list"
sudo apt update
Type the below command in your terminal to install Archivematica on your system:
sudo apt install archivematica-storage-service archivematica-mcp-server archivematica-dashboard
This command will install Archivematica's storage service, MCPServer, and web-based user interface, Dashboard.
After installation, you need to configure Archivematica. Type the following command in the terminal and follow the prompts to set up the Archivematica Dashboard.
sudo archivematica-storage-service-config
During the process, you will be asked to enter the directory where you want to store ingested content. The default path is /var/archivematica/sharedDirectory, but you can select another directory if required.
After that, execute the following command to start the Archivematica MCP server:
sudo systemctl start archivematica-mcp-server
Finally, to access the Archivematica Dashboard, open a web browser and type the following address:
http://localhost:8080/
