FreedomBox is a free, open-source personal server operating system that allows users to protect their privacy and control their online identity. It is designed to be easy to install and use, and it provides a range of services such as email, file sharing, web hosting, and more. In this tutorial, we will show you how to install FreedomBox on MXLinux Latest.
Before we start, you need to have the following prerequisites:
Open a terminal window and download FreedomBox by running the following command:
wget https://freedombox.org/downloads/stable/latest/freedombox-image-amd64.img.xz
This will download the latest stable version of FreedomBox to your computer.
Next, you need to extract the image that you just downloaded. Run the following command:
unxz freedombox-image-amd64.img.xz
This will extract the image file, which is in the raw format.
To flash the FreedomBox image to a USB drive, you can use the Etcher application. Download and install Etcher on your computer. Then, plug in your USB drive and open Etcher.
Select the FreedomBox image that you extracted in Step 2, and choose your USB drive as the target device. Make sure that you have selected the correct device, as all data on the device will be deleted during the flashing process. Click "Flash!" to begin the process, and wait for it to complete.
After the flashing process is complete, you need to boot your computer from the USB drive. To do this, restart your computer and press the key that allows you to access the boot menu. This key may vary depending on your computer's manufacturer, but it is often F12 or Esc.
In the boot menu, select the USB drive as the boot device and press Enter. Your computer will now boot from the USB and load the FreedomBox operating system.
Once the FreedomBox operating system is loaded, you can access the web interface by opening a web browser and going to:
https://freedombox.local/
This will take you to the FreedomBox configuration page, where you can configure and customize your installation. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your server and configure the various services that are available.
Congratulations! You have successfully installed FreedomBox on MXLinux Latest. With FreedomBox, you can now host your own personal server that provides a range of services while protecting your privacy and online identity.
If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!
Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
