How to Install Mautic on MXLinux Latest

Mautic is an open-source marketing automation software that helps businesses manage their marketing campaigns, email marketing, and social media marketing. In this tutorial, we will show you how to install Mautic on MXLinux Latest.

Prerequisites

Before we begin, ensure that you have the following prerequisites:

Step 1 | Download Mautic

To download the latest version of Mautic, visit the Mautic website and download the ZIP file. Alternatively, you can download Mautic with the following commands:

$ cd /tmp
$ wget https://www.mautic.org/download/latest

After downloading, extract the contents of the ZIP file to the "/var/www/html/" directory as follows:

$ sudo unzip /tmp/latest -d /var/www/html/

This command will create a directory named "mautic" in "/var/www/html/". You must change the ownership of the directory to the "www-data" user for Apache to access the application.

$ sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www/html/mautic/

Step 2 | Create a MySQL Database

Mautic requires a MySQL database to store its data. Use the following commands to create a new database, user, and grant permissions for Mautic:

  1. Login to MySQL:
$ sudo mysql -u root -p
  1. Create a MySQL database:
CREATE DATABASE mautic;
  1. Create a MySQL user:
CREATE USER 'mautic'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'password';
  1. Grant privileges to the user:
GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON mautic.* TO 'mautic'@'localhost';
  1. Flush privileges and exit MySQL:
FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
EXIT;

Step 3 | Configure Apache

By default, Apache does not come configured to serve Mautic. We must configure the Apache server to serve the Mautic application. Use the following commands to create a new virtual host for Mautic:

$ sudo nano /etc/apache2/sites-available/mautic.conf

Add the following configuration to the file:

<VirtualHost *:80>
  ServerName {{ your_domain_name }}
  DocumentRoot /var/www/html/mautic
  <Directory /var/www/html/mautic>
    Options +FollowSymLinks
    AllowOverride All
    Order allow,deny
    allow from all
  </Directory>
  ErrorLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/mautic_error.log
  CustomLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/mautic_access.log combined
</VirtualHost>

Replace "{{ your_domain_name }}" with your actual domain name. Save the file and exit the editor.

Enable this new virtual host and disable the default host with the following commands:

$ sudo a2ensite mautic.conf
$ sudo a2dissite 000-default.conf

Restart Apache for the changes to take effect:

$ sudo systemctl restart apache2

Step 4 | Install and Configure Mautic

Navigate to your domain name in the browser.

Mautic will now guide you through the installation process. The first screen will ask you to choose your preferred language. Once completed, click the "Next" button.

On the next page, Mautic will check your server requirements. Ensure that all of the items in the list have a green tick, indicating that the system requirements are satisfied. If any requirements are not satisfied, contact your system administrator to resolve them. Once completed, click the "Next" button.

On the following page, enter your database details that you configured in step 2 above. Enter the username and password, the database name and the host. Click on the "Test Database Connection" button. Mautic will now verify the connection to your database.

If the connection is successful, Mautic will display the message "Connection successful". On the next page, select the "Update Database Schema Now" option, and click on the "Next" button.

On the following page, fill in your admin user credentials, such as your email address, username and password, and click on the "Next" button.

On the next page, Mautic will configure the application. This may take a few minutes. After the installation is complete, you can log in to your Mautic dashboard by pressing the "Open your new Marketing Automation platform" button.
