This tutorial will guide you through the process of installing VirtualBox on MXLinux.
Step 1: Download VirtualBox
Navigate to the VirtualBox website and download the version of VirtualBox that is compatible with your MXLinux operating system.
Step 2: Install Required Packages
Before installing VirtualBox, you need to make sure that your system has a few required packages installed. Open the terminal and run the following command:
sudo apt-get install -y build-essential dkms linux-headers-$(uname -r)
Step 3: Install VirtualBox
After downloading VirtualBox and installing required packages, now it’s time to install VirtualBox.
Navigate to the location of the downloaded VirtualBox file, and then run the following command:
sudo dpkg -i <virtualbox_file_name.deb>
Note: Make sure the file name in the above command is a correct name based on the downloaded file name.
Step 4: Install VirtualBox Extension Pack
VirtualBox Extension Pack is an additional package that provides extra functionality such as USB 2.0, USB 3.0 support.
First, navigate to the VirtualBox Extension Pack page and download the extension pack.
Then, open VirtualBox application and click on “File -> Preferences -> Extensions”. Click on the “+” button and select the downloaded Extension Pack file.
Step 5: Create a Virtual Machine
Now you’re ready to create virtual machines. Open VirtualBox and click on “New” to create a new virtual machine.
Follow the wizard to configure the virtual machine name, operating system type, memory size, hard disk size, etc.
After completing the wizard, you can start the virtual machine.
