Installing Cockpit on Manjaro

Cockpit is a web-based graphical interface that allows you to manage your Linux server. In this tutorial, we will walk you through the installation of Cockpit on Manjaro.

Prerequisites

Before we begin, make sure you have a Manjaro installation up and running. You will also need root privileges to complete the installation process.

Step 1: Update System

Before installing any package in Manjaro, it is always a good practice to update the system package cache and upgrade the installed packages. You can do that using the following command in the terminal.

sudo pacman -Syyu

Step 2: Install Cockpit

Once the system is updated, you can proceed to install the Cockpit package. The Cockpit package is available in the Manjaro official repositories. You can install it using the following command in the terminal.

sudo pacman -S cockpit

This command will download and install Cockpit along with all the necessary dependencies.

Step 3: Start and Enable Cockpit Service

After the installation is complete, you can start and enable the Cockpit service using the following commands in the terminal.

sudo systemctl start cockpit.service
sudo systemctl enable cockpit.service

The first command will start the Cockpit service and the second command will enable the Cockpit service to start automatically at system boot.

Step 4: Access Cockpit Web Interface

The Cockpit web interface can be accessed using a web browser. Open your favorite web browser and enter the following URL in the address bar.

https://<your-server-ip>:9090

Replace with the IP address of your server. You will see a login screen where you can enter your system username and password.

Conclusion

That's it! You have successfully installed and configured Cockpit on your Manjaro system. You can now use Cockpit to manage your server through a web interface.

If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!

Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
