How to Install RetroShare on Manjaro

RetroShare is a free, secure, and decentralized communication platform that allows you to chat, share files, and collaborate with friends and family members. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of installing RetroShare on Manjaro Linux.

Step 1 - Enable the AUR

RetroShare is not available in the official Manjaro repositories, so we need to enable the Arch User Repository (AUR) to install it. To enable the AUR, open the Terminal and type the following command:

sudo pacman -S --needed base-devel

Once the base-devel package is installed, we can use an AUR helper like Yay to install RetroShare.

Step 2 - Install Yay

Yay is a popular AUR helper for Arch-based Linux distributions, including Manjaro. To install Yay, open the Terminal and enter the following command:

git clone https://aur.archlinux.org/yay.git

Navigate to the yay directory using the cd command and run the following command to install Yay on your system:

makepkg -si

Step 3 - Install RetroShare

Once Yay is installed, we can use it to install RetroShare. Open the Terminal and enter the following command:

yay -S retroshare

The installation process may take some time, depending on your internet connection speed.

Step 4 - Launch RetroShare

After the installation is complete, you can launch RetroShare from the Applications menu. Alternatively, you can launch it from the Terminal by typing the following command:

retroshare

Conclusion

In this tutorial, we have guided you through the process of installing RetroShare on Manjaro Linux using the AUR. Once you have installed the application, you can start chatting, file-sharing, and collaborating with your friends in a secure and private environment.
