How to Install UBOS on Manjaro

UBOS is a Linux distribution that makes it easy to run web applications for personal or small business use. Installing UBOS on Manjaro is a straightforward process.

Step 1: Download UBOS

Visit the UBOS website at https://ubos.net/ and click on the "Download" button. Scroll down and select the "x86_64" version of UBOS.

Step 2: Create a UBOS Bootable USB Drive

Insert a USB drive with at least 4GB of free space into your computer. Open the Etcher application and select the UBOS image file you downloaded in step 1. Select the USB drive as the target and click "Flash!". This will create a bootable UBOS USB drive.

Step 3: Boot from USB

Plug the UBOS bootable USB drive into your computer and restart your computer. Access your computer's boot menu by pressing the appropriate key during startup, usually F2 or F12. Select the UBOS USB drive from the boot menu and press Enter.

Step 4: Install UBOS

Once the UBOS live environment boots, open a terminal window and run the following commands:

sudo ubos-admin update -v
sudo ubos-admin createsite

Follow the prompts to create a new site, including selecting a site name and administrator password. Once the site has been created, start the site by running:

sudo ubos-admin startsite

This will start the site and give you instructions on how to access it in your web browser.

Step 5: Access UBOS

Open your web browser and go to the address provided by the sudo ubos-admin startsite command. Enter the administrator username and password created in step 4 to access the UBOS dashboard.

Congratulations! You have successfully installed UBOS on Manjaro. From here, you can install web applications using the UBOS dashboard or the ubos-admin command line tool.

If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!

Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
