In this tutorial, we will be learning how to install F-Droid on NetBSD. F-Droid is a free and open-source alternative to the Google Play Store, which allows you to download free and open-source Android applications.
First, we need to download F-Droid from their official website. To do this, open your preferred web browser and visit https://f-droid.org. Click on the "download" button and select the .apk
file for the latest version of F-Droid.
The Android Debug Bridge (ADB) allows us to communicate with our Android device from our NetBSD system. To install the ADB, we need to install the android-tools
package using the following command:
pkg_add android-tools
Connect your Android device to your NetBSD system using a USB cable. Make sure that USB debugging is enabled on your device.
Now that we have the necessary tools and have connected our Android device, we can install F-Droid using the ADB. To do this, follow these steps:
Open Terminal and navigate to the directory where you downloaded the F-Droid .apk
file.
Enter the following command to install F-Droid:
adb install f-droid.apk
Wait for the installation to complete. You should see a message saying "Success" once it has finished.
Once F-Droid is installed, you can launch it from your Android device's app drawer. From there, you can browse and download free and open-source Android applications.
Congratulations, you have successfully installed F-Droid on NetBSD!
If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!
Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
