In this tutorial, we will be installing Jam, a powerful and flexible build tool, on NetBSD.
First, we need to download the Jam source code from the official website:
$ ftp https://jamshelf.com/jam/jam-2.6.1.zip
Next, we need to extract the downloaded archive to a folder called jam-2.6.1
:
$ unzip jam-2.6.1.zip -d jam-2.6.1
Navigate to the jam-2.6.1
folder and run the make
command to build Jam:
$ cd jam-2.6.1
$ make
This will build the Jam binary and place it in the jam-2.6.1/bin
directory.
To install Jam, we need to copy the binary to a location in our system's PATH
. One common location for user-specific binaries is ~/bin
, so we will use that in this example.
$ cp bin/jam ~/bin
Finally, we can verify that Jam is installed correctly by running the jam
command:
$ jam --version
This should output the version number of Jam that was installed.
Congratulations! You have successfully installed Jam on your NetBSD system.
If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!
Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
