How to Install OnTrack on OpenBSD

OnTrack is a web-based multi-track audio recorder and MIDI sequencer. This tutorial will guide you through the steps needed to install OnTrack on OpenBSD.

Prerequisites

Before starting with the installation process, make sure that you have the following prerequisites installed on your OpenBSD system:

Step 1: Clone the OnTrack Repository

To clone the OnTrack repository from GitHub, run the following command:

git clone https://github.com/inoda/ontrack.git

This will create a new directory called "ontrack" containing the OnTrack source code.

Step 2: Install Dependencies

Navigate to the "ontrack" directory and run the following command to install the dependencies:

npm install

This will install all the required dependencies for OnTrack.

Step 3: Configure Database

Create a new PostgreSQL database and user for OnTrack:

su - postgres
createdb ontrack
createuser -P ontrack

Edit the "config.js" file in the OnTrack directory and replace the database settings according to your PostgreSQL installation:

module.exports = {
  database: {
    host: 'localhost',
    port: 5432,
    database: 'ontrack',
    user: 'ontrack',
    password: 'mysecretpassword',
    ssl: false
  }
}

Step 4: Build and Run the App

To build and run OnTrack, run the following command:

npm start

This will start the OnTrack server at "http://localhost:3000".

Conclusion

You have now successfully installed OnTrack on your OpenBSD system. You can access the OnTrack application by visiting "http://localhost:3000" in your web browser.

If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!
