In this tutorial, we will guide you through the steps to install Mailcow, which is a mail server powered by Docker and runs on OpenSUSE Latest.
Start by updating the local package index and upgrade the system's packages to the latest version.
sudo zypper refresh
sudo zypper update
We need to install Docker and Docker Compose. Run the following command to install them.
sudo zypper install docker docker-compose
Once the installation is complete, start the Docker service and add the user to the Docker group to avoid running Docker commands with sudo.
sudo systemctl start docker
sudo systemctl enable docker
sudo usermod -aG docker $USER
We will now clone the Mailcow repository and start the setup.
git clone https://github.com/mailcow/mailcow-dockerized.git
cd mailcow-dockerized
cp sample-env .env
Before running the setup script, edit the .env
file and modify the necessary settings such as hostname, domain, SSL certificate and email address.
nano .env
Note: The MAILCOW_HOSTNAME
field should be the FQDN of your Mailcow server. The hostname should also be added as an A record to the DNS zone file.
Next, run the start script to begin the installation.
sudo ./generate_config.sh
sudo docker-compose up -d
The script may take several minutes to complete. Once it's done, you can access the Mailcow web interface in your web browser at the following URL:
https://<MAILCOW_HOSTNAME>
You have successfully installed Mailcow on OpenSUSE Latest using Docker and Docker Compose. You can now create users and manage email routes via the Mailcow web interface.
If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!
Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
