Installing Phorge on OpenSUSE Latest

Phorge is a powerful, open-source software development platform that allows teams to manage projects, collaborate, and track progress. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of installing Phorge on OpenSUSE Latest.

Prerequisites

Before we begin, ensure that you have the following requirements:

Step 1: Install Apache

Phorge runs on the Apache web server, so the first step is to install Apache. To install Apache, open a terminal and run the following command:

sudo zypper install apache2

Step 2: Install MariaDB

Phorge requires a database system to function, and for this tutorial, we will use MariaDB. To install MariaDB, run the following command in a terminal:

sudo zypper install mariadb mariadb-client

Step 3: Install PHP

Phorge requires PHP version 7.2 or higher. To install PHP, run the following command in a terminal:

sudo zypper install php7 php7-mysql php7-gd php7-mbstring

Step 4: Download Phorge

Next, we need to download Phorge. To do this, open a web browser and navigate to https://we.phorge.it/. Click on the "Download" button, and save the compressed file to your computer.

Step 5: Extract Phorge

Once the download is complete, extract the contents of the compressed file to the Apache web server's document root directory. The default location is /srv/www/htdocs/. You can use the following command in the terminal to perform this operation:

sudo tar -xzf phorge-<version>.tar.gz -C /srv/www/htdocs/

Step 6: Configure MariaDB

Next, we need to configure MariaDB to create a database for Phorge. Run the following command in the terminal:

sudo mysql -u root -p

Enter your root password when prompted, and then run the following commands:

CREATE DATABASE phorge;
GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON phorge.* TO 'phorgeuser'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'your_password_here';
FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
EXIT;

Make sure to replace your_password_here with a secure password.

Step 7: Configure Apache

Now we need to configure Apache to serve Phorge. Create a new configuration file for Phorge using your preferred text editor:

sudo nano /etc/apache2/conf.d/phorge.conf

Paste the following content into the file:

Alias /phorge "/srv/www/htdocs/phorge/"
<Directory /srv/www/htdocs/phorge>
    Options -Indexes +FollowSymLinks
    DirectoryIndex index.php
    <IfModule mod_php7.c>
        AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
        php_flag magic_quotes_gpc Off
        php_flag track_vars On
        php_value include_path ".:/srv/www/htdocs/phorge/lib/"
    </IfModule>
    <IfModule mod_dir.c>
        DirectoryIndex index.php
    </IfModule>
</Directory>

Save and close the file. Restart Apache with the following command:

sudo systemctl restart apache2

Step 8: Install Phorge

Now that everything is configured, we can install Phorge via the webbrowser. Navigate to http://localhost/phorge/install/ in your web browser. Follow the on-screen instructions, and enter the MariaDB information when prompted.

Finally, create the administrator account and hit the "Install" button. After a few moments, Phorge should be installed and ready to use.

Congratulations! You have successfully installed Phorge on OpenSUSE Latest.

If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!

Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
