In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of installing CUPS on POP! OS Latest. CUPS is a printing system that allows you to print from your computer to a printer over the network or locally.
Before you start the installation process, make sure your system is up-to-date. You can do this by running the following command in your terminal:
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
To begin installing CUPS, open your terminal and enter the following command:
sudo apt install cups
This will download and install CUPS and any dependencies it requires. You may be asked to enter your password during the installation process – this is normal.
Once CUPS has been installed, you will need to configure it before you can start using it. To do this, we will need to access the CUPS web interface.
Open your web browser and visit the following URL: http://localhost:631
Note: CUPS is set up to only allow local access by default. If you want to access the web interface remotely, you will need to configure CUPS to allow it. Refer to the official documentation for more information.
In the web interface, click on the "Administration" tab. Here, you will be asked to enter your system password. This is because the CUPS web interface has administrative privileges.
Once you have entered your password, you will be taken to the CUPS web interface dashboard. Here, you can manage printers, print jobs, and access various system settings.
To add a printer, click on the "Add Printer" button under "Printers". You will be asked to choose a name for your printer and to select the printer model from a list of drivers.
Once you have selected your printer model, click on the "Add Printer" button to continue.
You will then be asked to configure your printer's settings, such as paper size and print quality. Once you have set these options, click on the "Set Default Options" button to save your settings.
Your printer is now set up and ready to use!
In this tutorial, we have shown you how to install and configure CUPS on POP! OS Latest. With CUPS, you can now print from your computer to a printer over the network or locally. Enjoy!
