Mibew is an open-source chat application that allows webmasters to add online chat to their website. In this tutorial, we will learn how to install Mibew on the latest version of POP! OS.
To get started with this tutorial, you need the following:
Before installing Mibew, we need to install some packages required for its dependencies. Run the following command to update your system's package list and install the required packages:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install -y apache2 php php-mysqli php-mbstring php-xml
We will download the latest version of Mibew from its official website. Run the following command to download the tarball archive:
cd /var/www
sudo wget https://download.mibew.org/latest.tar.gz
Now, extract the downloaded Mibew file:
sudo tar -xzf latest.tar.gz
sudo mv mibew-* mibew
To configure Apache for Mibew, we need to create a new virtual host configuration file. Run the following command to create the file:
sudo nano /etc/apache2/sites-available/mibew.conf
Add the following lines to the file, and then save and close it:
<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName yourdomain.com
DocumentRoot /var/www/mibew
<Directory /var/www/mibew>
AllowOverride All
Require all granted
</Directory>
ErrorLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/mibew_error.log
CustomLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/mibew_access.log combined
</VirtualHost>
Enable the new virtual host configuration by running the following command:
sudo a2ensite mibew.conf
Disable the default Apache site by running the following command:
sudo a2dissite 000-default.conf
Restart Apache to apply the changes:
sudo systemctl restart apache2
Next, we need to give proper permissions to the Mibew directory.
sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www/mibew
sudo chmod -R 755 /var/www/mibew
Now, navigate to your domain in a web browser to complete the installation process. Follow the on-screen instructions to configure the database and other settings.
Once you complete the installation, you should be able to access the Mibew user interface by going to your domain in a web browser.
We have successfully installed Mibew on POP! OS. You can now use this open-source chat application to add online chat to your website.
If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!
Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
