Remmina is a remote desktop application for Linux, which allows you to connect to other computers and servers via various protocols such as RDP, VNC, SSH, and more. This tutorial will guide you through the process of installing Remmina on POP! OS Latest.
Before proceeding with the installation, make sure that your system is up-to-date and that you have administrative privileges.
Remmina is not included in the default repositories of POP! OS, but it is available in a third-party repository called Remmina PPA. To add the PPA to your system, open a terminal and run the following command:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:remmina-ppa-team/remmina-next
This command will prompt you to enter your password. Type your password and press Enter.
After adding the Remmina PPA, you need to update the package list to include the newly added software. To do this, run the following command:
sudo apt-get update
Now that the package list is updated, you can install Remmina by running the following command:
sudo apt-get install remmina remmina-plugin-rdp remmina-plugin-secret remmina-plugin-spice remmina-plugin-vnc
This command will install the Remmina package along with the required plugins for different protocols.
After the installation is complete, you can launch Remmina from the Activities menu. Alternatively, you can start Remmina from the terminal by running the following command:
remmina
That's it! You have successfully installed Remmina on POP! OS Latest and can now use it to connect to remote computers and servers using different protocols.
If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!
Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
