Peergos is a decentralized platform that provides file sharing and secure messaging services. It is built on top of IPFS, a distributed file system. Peergos allows users to share their data securely and anonymously, without any central authority. If you own an Ubuntu Server and want to install Peergos, follow the steps below.
Peergos requires IPFS to be installed on your server. IPFS can be installed by running the following command:
sudo snap install ipfs
Run the following command to download Peergos:
wget https://peergos.org/download/latest/peergos-server.zip
Extract the downloaded file:
unzip peergos-server.zip
Change the directory to the extracted folder:
cd peergos-server
To configure Peergos, you need to edit the config.yml
file. Open the file with your favorite text editor (nano
, vim
, emacs
, etc.):
nano config.yml
Look for the following lines of code:
ipfs_gateway: http://localhost:8080
peergos_platform: https://peergos.org
Replace https://peergos.org
with your server's IP address. After making the changes, save and close the file.
Finally, you can start Peergos by running the following command:
./peergos-server
Peergos is now up and running on your server!
In this tutorial, we have shown you how to install Peergos on Ubuntu Server Latest, which allows you to use a decentralized platform for sharing and securing files. Follow these steps and enjoy the benefits of Peergos on your server.
If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!
