Yacy is a decentralized search engine that anyone can use to index the internet (or just their own websites) and make it searchable. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of installing Yacy on Ubuntu Server Latest.
Before we get started, make sure you have the following:
Before installing Yacy, it’s important to ensure that your system is update as follows:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
Yacy requires Java to be installed on your system. Run the following command to install Java on your Ubuntu Server using the OpenJDK version:
sudo apt-get install openjdk-8-jdk-headless
Download the Yacy installer package onto your Ubuntu Server using the wget command:
wget https://github.com/yacy/yacy_search_server/releases/download/v1.924/ yacy_v1.924_20190304_9966.tar.gz
Extract the downloaded Yacy installer archive using the following command:
tar zxf yacy_v1.924_20190304_9966.tar.gz
This will extract the Yacy files to the current directory.
To run Yacy, navigate to the extracted Yacy directory and run the following command:
cd yacy_v1.924_20190304_9966
Next, start the Yacy server using the following command:
./startYACY.sh
After the server starts, you can visit Yacy’s web interface by entering “localhost:8090” or “[your server IP]:8090” in your web browser. From here, you can configure the search engine to index sites and search.
That’s it! You have successfully installed Yacy on your Ubuntu Server Latest. You can now use Yacy to index websites and search the internet.
