In this tutorial, we will learn how to install File Sharing, which is available on GitHub, on Void Linux. File Sharing is an open-source project that allows users to share files between devices on a local network.
Before we begin, ensure that you have:
The first step is to ensure that all the required dependencies are installed. In this case, we need Node.js and NPM on the system, so we can install them using the xbps-install
command.
sudo xbps-install -S nodejs npm
Next, we need to clone the repository to our local machine. We can do this using the git clone
command.
git clone https://github.com/axeloz/filesharing.git
Once the repository is cloned, we need to navigate to the project directory and install the dependencies using the npm install
command.
cd filesharing
npm install
Now we can run the File Sharing application, and it will automatically start the web interface on http://localhost:3000. To start the application, execute the following command in the project directory:
npm start
That's it! The File Sharing application should now be installed and running on your Void Linux machine. You can now connect to http://localhost:3000 from any web browser on your local network to start sharing files.
If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!
Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
