Gerbera is a free media server application that allows users to stream digital media files such as photos, videos, and music to compatible devices. It supports a variety of platforms and media formats, and is easy to install on Linux. Here's how to install Gerbera on Void Linux.
The latest version of Gerbera can be found on the official Void Linux repository. Therefore, the first step is to add the repository to your system. Run the following command in a terminal to add the repository:
sudo echo "repository http://repository.salixos.org/x86_64/ restricted" >> /etc/xbps.d/99-salix.conf
After adding the repository to your system, update your package list using the following command:
sudo xbps-install -S
Once you have refreshed the package list, install Gerbera using the xbps-install command:
sudo xbps-install gerbera
Once Gerbera is installed, you can start the Gerbera server with the following command:
sudo systemctl enable --now gerbera
This will start the Gerbera server and enable it to start automatically upon boot.
To access the Gerbera web interface, open your web browser and navigate to http://localhost:49152 (or replace localhost with the IP address of the computer Gerbera is installed). From there, you can configure Gerbera settings, upload media, and manage libraries.
Congratulations! You now have Gerbera installed and running on your Void Linux machine. Enjoy streaming your favorite digital media to compatible devices.
If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!
Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
