This tutorial will guide you through the installation process of NSD on Void Linux.
Before installing any new software on your system, it's always a good idea to make sure that your system is up to date. To do so, run the following command:
sudo xbps-install -S
NSD has several dependencies which need to be installed before installing the software itself. To install the dependencies, run the following command:
sudo xbps-install -y perl make libressl libressl-devel gcc
NSD can be downloaded from the NLnet Labs website. Navigate to the following URL: http://www.nlnetlabs.nl/projects/nsd/download/
You will find the latest version of NSD listed there, along with the previous versions. Download the version you need.
Alternatively, you can download NSD using the following command:
wget http://www.nlnetlabs.nl/downloads/nsd/nsd-4.2.2.tar.gz
After downloading NSD, navigate to the directory where the tarball was downloaded using the command:
cd /path/to/directory
Once you are in the correct directory, extract the tarball using the following command:
tar -zxvf nsd-4.2.2.tar.gz
Change your directory to the newly created NSD directory:
cd nsd-4.2.2
Configure and install NSD using the following commands:
./configure
make
sudo make install
Verify that NSD is installed correctly by checking the NSD version number:
nsd -v
This command should display the version number of the installed NSD software.
That's it! You have successfully installed NSD on your Void Linux system. You're now ready to start using NSD as your preferred DNS server.
