SimpleX Chat is a web-based chat application that you can run on your own server. It is available for free on GitHub. Here’s how to install SimpleX Chat on Void Linux.
Before you begin, ensure that you have a server with Void Linux installed and that you have administrative access to it.
First, you need to install the following dependencies:
To install these packages, open a terminal window and run the following commands:
sudo xbps-install -S git
sudo xbps-install -S nodejs-lts
sudo xbps-install -S npm
sudo xbps-install -S python
Next, clone the SimpleX Chat repository using Git:
git clone https://github.com/simplex-chat/simplex-chat.git
Once the repository is cloned, navigate to the simplex-chat
directory:
cd simplex-chat
Now, install the project dependencies using NPM:
npm install
Copy the config.example.json
file to config.json
:
cp config.example.json config.json
Open the config.json
file in your favorite text editor and modify the settings to your liking. You will need to specify a port number and database connection information.
You can start the application using the following command:
npm start
By default, the application will listen on port 8080
.
Open your web browser and navigate to http://localhost:8080
to access the SimpleX Chat application.
