Introduction
Clonezilla is a free and open-source disk imaging and cloning software. It can be used to clone and backup whole system, partitions or individual directories, and to restore them to other systems. In this tutorial, we will guide you on how to install Clonezilla on Windows 10.
Prerequisites
- A Windows 10 computer
- Clonezilla downloaded from http://clonezilla.org/
- A USB drive with at least 2GB of storage space
Install Clonezilla
Follow the steps below to install Clonezilla on your Windows 10 computer.
Step 1: Verify Clonezilla Image
First, you should verify the Clonezilla image you have downloaded to ensure that it isn’t corrupted or tampered with. Here is how to do this:
- Download and install the HashCalc tool.
- Open the HashCalc tool.
- Click on the “File” menu, and then click on “Open”.
- Select the Clonezilla image you downloaded, and click on “Open”.
- Select the hash type “MD5” or “SHA-1”.
- Download the MD5 or SHA-1 hash from the Clonezilla website, and paste it into the HashCalc tool.
- Click on “Calculate”.
- Compare the hash calculated by the tool with the one provided by the Clonezilla website. If they match, then the image isn’t corrupted or tampered with.
Step 2: Create a Bootable USB Drive
To install Clonezilla, you will need to create a bootable USB drive. Here is how to do this:
- Insert the USB drive into your computer.
- Open the Rufus tool.
- Select the USB drive from the “Device” dropdown menu.
- Select the Clonezilla ISO image by clicking on the “SELECT” button next to “Boot selection” and navigating to the location where you have saved the ISO image.
- Select the “MBR” partition scheme.
- Select the “FAT32” file system.
- Ensure the cluster size is set to “Default” or “4096 bytes (Default)”.
- Give the drive a label of your choice.
- Click on the “START” button to create the bootable USB drive.
Step 3: Boot your computer from USB drive
Once the bootable USB drive has been created, the next step is to boot your computer from the USB drive. Here is how to do this:
- Insert the USB drive into your computer.
- Restart your computer.
- When your computer starts up, press the key that opens the boot menu (usually F12 or Del).
- Select the USB drive from the list of bootable devices.
Step 4: Start Clonezilla
Once your computer boots from the USB drive, Clonezilla will start automatically. Here is how to use Clonezilla:
- Select your preferred language using the arrow keys and press “Enter”.
- Select the default keyboard layout, and press “Enter”.
- Select “Start Clonezilla” and press “Enter”.
- Select the Clonezilla mode you want to use, for example, “device-image”, “disk-disk”, or “disk-remote”.
