DD-WRT is an open-source firmware designed to replace the default firmware on your wireless router. It offers advanced features, improved security, and better network performance. This tutorial will guide you through the process of installing DD-WRT on your router using Windows 10.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, you will need the following:

Step 1: Download the DD-WRT Firmware

  1. Visit the DD-WRT downloads page and search for your router model in the Router Database.
  2. Download the appropriate firmware file to your computer.
  3. Extract the firmware file to a folder on your computer.

Step 2: Connect Your Computer to the Router

  1. Connect your computer to the router using an Ethernet cable.
  2. Turn off both your computer and router.

Step 3: Access Router’s Web Interface

  1. Turn on your router and let it boot up.
  2. Open your web browser and enter the router’s IP address into the address bar. The default IP address is usually 192.168.1.1, but this can vary depending on your router model.
  3. Enter the username and password for your router. If you have not changed the default login credentials, the username is usually “admin” and the password is blank.

Step 4: Upload the DD-WRT Firmware

  1. Go to the Administration section of the web interface.
  2. Click on Firmware Upgrade.
  3. Click on the Browse button and navigate to the folder where you extracted the firmware file.
  4. Select the firmware file and click on the Upload button.
  5. Wait for the firmware to upload and for the router to reboot. This can take a few minutes. Do not turn off the router or computer during this process.

Step 5: Access the DD-WRT Interface

  1. Once the router has rebooted, open your web browser and enter the router’s IP address.
  2. Enter the username and password for DD-WRT. The default username is “root” and the password is “admin”.
  3. You should now be logged in to the DD-WRT interface.

Congratulations! You have successfully installed DD-WRT on your router using Windows 10.
