How to Install FOG on Windows 10
FOG is a free, open-source computer imaging solution that allows you to deploy, image, and manage multiple computers at once. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of installing FOG on your Windows 10 machine.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure that your Windows 10 machine meets the following requirements:
- At least 2GB of RAM
- At least 40GB of free disk space
- A web browser (Chrome, Firefox, or IE)
- Administrative access to your Windows 10 machine
Step 1: Download FOG
- Open your web browser and go to the official FOG website: https://www.fogproject.org/
- Click the “Download” button on the homepage
- Select the appropriate version of FOG for your system (e.g. FOG 1.5.8 for Windows)
- Save the download file to your preferred location on your Windows 10 machine
Step 2: Install FOG
- Double-click the FOG download file to begin the installation process.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
Step 3: Access FOG Web Interface
- Open your web browser and navigate to http://localhost/fog/management
- You will be prompted to create a new user account. Enter the desired username and password.
- Click the "Log in" button to access the FOG web interface.
Step 4: Configure DHCP Server
FOG requires a DHCP server in order to boot from the network. If you don't have a DHCP server set up yet, you can follow the instructions on the FOG website to set up a DHCP server using dnsmasq.
Once your DHCP server is configured, go to the FOG web interface and click on “FOG Configuration” in the left-hand menu.
Click on “FOG Settings” and then “FOG Service”
Scroll down to “FOG_TFTP_FTP_USERNAME” and “FOG_TFTP_FTP_PASSWORD” and enter your FTP username and password.
Click “Save” to apply the changes.
Step 5: Create FOG Image
- Click on “Imaging” in the left-hand menu.
- Click on “Create New Image Definition”
- Enter a name for the new image.
- Select the OS type and version for the image.
- Follow the prompts to set up the image settings (e.g. disk size, image type, etc.).
- Click “Save” to create the image.
Step 6: Deploy FOG Image
- Click on “Host Management” in the left-hand menu.
- Click on “Add New Host”
- Enter the hostname and MAC address of the machine you want to deploy the image to.
- Select the image you want to deploy from the dropdown list.
- Follow the prompts to set up the host settings (e.g. IP address, hostname, etc.).
- Click “Save” to deploy the image.
