Tutorial: Installing Jenkins on Windows 10

Jenkins is a popular open-source automation tool used in software development for continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) tasks. This tutorial will guide you through the steps to install Jenkins on a Windows 10 operating system.

Prerequisites

Before proceeding with the installation, ensure that your computer meets the following requirements:

Steps

  1. Download the latest version of Jenkins from the official website https://jenkins-ci.org/. Click on the "Download Jenkins" button, and choose the Windows installer (.exe) option.

  2. Once the download is complete, navigate to your Downloads folder and double-click on the Jenkins .exe file to start the installation process.

  3. The Jenkins installer wizard will launch, click on the "Next" button to proceed.

  4. Read and accept the terms and conditions, then click on "Next" to continue.

  5. Select the installation directory where you want Jenkins to be installed. The default location is fine, but you can choose a different location if you prefer. Click on the "Next" button to proceed.

  6. On the next screen, you will be prompted to select the components to be installed. You can leave the default selection and click on "Next" to proceed.

  7. Next, the installer will ask you to specify the port number for Jenkins to listen on. Leave the default value (8080) unless you have a specific need to use a different port number. Click on "Next" to proceed.

  8. Now, you will be prompted to choose whether to install the Jenkins service or run it as a standalone application. Select the "Install as a service" option and choose the service name (Jenkins) and the path to save the data. Click on "Next" to proceed.

  9. Confirm your installation settings and click on the "Install" button to begin the installation process.

  10. Wait for the installation process to complete. Once done, the installer will display a message asking if you want to launch the Jenkins service automatically. Choose the "Yes" option and click on "Finish".

  11. Open your web browser and navigate to http://localhost:8080/ to access the Jenkins web interface. You will see the "Unlock Jenkins" screen asking for the initial password. To obtain the password, navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Jenkins\secrets\initialAdminPassword, copy the password, and paste it into the "Administrator password" field on the "Unlock Jenkins" screen.

  12. Click on "Continue" to complete the setup process. You should now be able to create your first Jenkins job and start automating your software development tasks.

Congratulations! You have successfully installed Jenkins on Windows 10.
