Joomla! is a free and open-source content management system (CMS) that allows you to easily create and manage websites. In this tutorial, we'll guide you through the steps to install Joomla! on a Windows 10 computer.
Download and install XAMPP from here. Make sure you install the latest version of XAMPP.
Launch the XAMPP control panel and start the Apache and MySQL services.
Download the latest version of Joomla! from here.
Extract the downloaded Joomla! archive to the C:\xampp\htdocs
folder.
Open your web browser and navigate to http://localhost/phpmyadmin/. This will open the phpMyAdmin interface.
Click on the "New" button at the top of the screen to create a new database for Joomla!.
Give your new database a name (e.g., joomladb
) and click on the "Create" button.
Navigate to http://localhost/ on your web browser. This will display the XAMPP dashboard.
Click on the "phpMyAdmin" link to open the phpMyAdmin interface again.
Click on your new database (joomladb
) in the left-hand sidebar.
Click on the "Import" button at the top of the screen.
Click on the "Choose File" button and select the Joomla! database file you downloaded earlier (it should be called joomla.sql
).
Click on the "Go" button at the bottom of the screen to import the Joomla! database.
Open your web browser and navigate to http://localhost/joomla/. This will start the Joomla! installer.
Choose your preferred language and click on the "Next" button.
Accept the license terms and click on the "Next" button.
Enter the database details (database name, username, and password). You can leave the database host and table prefix as the default values. Click on the "Next" button.
Enter your site details (site name, description, admin email, and admin password). Click on the "Install" button.
Wait for the installation to complete (this may take a few minutes). Once the installation is complete, you will see a success message.
Click on the "Remove installation folder" button to remove the installation folder.
Click on the "Site" button to view your new Joomla! website.
Congratulations! You have successfully installed Joomla! on your Windows 10 computer.
