Apache Mesos is a distributed systems kernel that enables the efficient and fault-tolerant sharing of computing resources across clusters of nodes. Although Mesos is often used on Linux systems, it is also possible to run Mesos on Windows (albeit with some limitations).
In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of installing Mesos on Windows 10.
Prerequisites
Before you start, make sure that you have the following software installed:
- Java Runtime Environment (JRE) v1.8 or higher
- Python 2.7 or newer
Step 1: Download the Mesos Binary
- Go to the Mesos website (http://mesos.apache.org/) and click on the "Downloads" link.
- Under the "Pre-built Packages" section, select the version of Mesos that you want to download (e.g., "1.11.0").
- Under the "Windows" sub-section, download the binary package in .zip format.
Step 2: Extract the Mesos Binary
- Extract the contents of the .zip file to a folder of your choice (e.g., C:\Mesos).
- Rename the extracted folder to simply "Mesos" (without the version number).
Step 3: Set Environment Variables
- Open the Windows Control Panel and navigate to System Properties > Advanced System Settings > Environment Variables.
- Under "System Variables", click the "New" button to add a new variable.
- Set the name of the variable to "MESOS_HOME" and set the value to the path of the Mesos folder (e.g., C:\Mesos).
- Edit the "Path" variable and add the file path to the Mesos binaries directory to the list of paths (e.g., C:\Mesos\bin).
Step 4: Verify the Installation
- Open a new command prompt and type the following command to check whether Mesos is installed correctly:
mesos-master.bat --version
- If Mesos is installed correctly, the version number of Mesos should be displayed in the console.
